For years, a growing group of individuals has recognized the needs of families in Toombs, Montgomery, and Wheeler Counties and responded with generosity and leadership through membership in the Highlander Society of United Way of Toombs–Montgomery–Wheeler Counties. The Highlander Society takes its name from the settlers who journeyed from the Scottish Highlands to Georgia in the 1700s, building new lives through resilience, cooperation, and determination. That same spirit lives on today through one of our community’s most enduring traditions: people caring for people. This tradition does not happen by chance. It exists because of dedicated community leaders who recognized local needs early and invested the time, resources, and leadership required to address them. Their foresight helped strengthen this community long before support systems were widely available.
